East Anglia Mark Stewards Lodge No 1937

WBro Tim Ridley writes:

There are parts of my role as APGM which are a real delight and Thursday evening was one of those occasions. Since the Consecration of East Anglia Mark Stewards Lodge, it has become a tradition that the Installation of each new WM is carried out by one of the Provincial Rulers, rotating in turn. I was extremely fortunate in that this year it was the turn of the APGM.

This was slightly daunting in that the Lodge is such an important one within the Province, but also a huge honour and privilege. I arrived in plenty of time ahead of the meeting and was delighted to see the room fill up with so many friendly faces – members of Stewards Lodge, their guests and also visitors from several other Provincial Stewards Lodges who had come along to support the evening.

At the appointed hour, the brethren took their places in the Temple and the Lodge was opened. Our Deputy PGM, VW Ray Clark and myself were processed into the Lodge by our Provincial AGDC, W. Bro. Rick Orme who as ever, discharged his duties faultlessly. On entering, it was lovely to see that practically every seat was filled.

A couple of items of Lodge business were taken care of and then I was placed in the Chair for the Installation of W. Bro. Terry Lewis. I am delighted to say that all went well, Terry was successfully Installed and then Installed his Team of Officers.

Following the meeting we all retired to the Festive Board. Another tradition of the Lodge is that their Installation Banquet is particularly sumptuous. This year was no exception and we were treated to the most magnificent five course extravaganza! Each course was accompanied by a different wine, specially selected to pair perfectly with the meal. They had all been provided by the new Worshipful Master and included some wonderful wines from his personal collection. Each was introduced by the Lodge DC, W. Bro. Melvyn Eke, who explained their origin, grape type and taste accents. To be honest, I think the wines spoke for themselves more eloquently than Melvyn!

All in all, a wonderful evening, spent in great company. I felt hugely privileged to have had the opportunity to play a part in such a great event. As I mentioned in my response to the Toast to the Province, it only seems like five minutes since we were in the same building Consecrating the Lodge. In such a short time it has become an indispensable asset to the Province and continues to get stronger and stronger with every passing year. The lodge’s huge success is a great testament both to the vision of our PGM and to the hard work of its members.

The East Anglia Mark Stewards Lodge Installation meeting is one of the jewels in our Provincial Calendar. Should you have an opportunity to attend it in the future, I strongly suggest you do so.
