Royal Ark Mariner Grand Assembly 2017

Always a wonderful occasion, this year’s Royal Ark Mariner Grand Assembly didn’t disappoint.

It is at this event that the recipients of Royal Ark Mariner Grand Rank are invested. This is one of the hardest Grand Ranks to achieve and is always a well-supported and extremely colourful meeting. The Grand Temple at Freemasons’ Hall filled to the brim with Royal Ark Mariners dressed in their distinctive rainbow regalia is a particularly impressive sight.

East Anglia had four very well-deserved Grand Rank appointments this year – W. Bros. Colin Farrington, Mike Goffin, Robin Habbitts and Sam Mixer.

Three out of the four were able to attend on the day to be invested by the Pro Grand Master, supported by a very healthy throng of East Anglian Brethren from all parts of our wonderful Province. Unfortunately, illness had taken its toll and we had a further four brethren who had booked in to attend but were unwell on the day, we hope of course that they are now feeling better.

The ceremony was magnificent as ever. There was a record attendance and a real “buzz” in the Grand Temple. The Pro Grand Master’s procession was very ably led by our own W. Bro. David Boswell, the Grand Sword Bearer. We then enjoyed watching all the recipients of Grand Rank receive their honours. It was of course particularly pleasing to see the three East Anglian brethren present receive theirs.

Following the meeting we retired to the Connaught Rooms to carry on the celebrations at the Festive Banquet. An excellent meal and an opportunity to catch-up with not only our own brethren, but with Royal Ark Mariner friends from all across the World.

Following the Festive Board, we headed for our various trains and cars home. I was fortunate in having a good group of brethren on the Norwich train to share the journey with, bringing to a close another fabulous day of Royal Ark Mariner masonry.

Particular thanks to all those who came along to share the day and support the brethren receiving Grand Rank. I look forward to seeing you all at next year’s Grand Assembly.
